From July 17 to 21, Wina Simweetwa Muchindu, Acting Consul-General of Zambia in Guangzhou visited Hainan. Wang Daxue, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province met with Muchindu and his delegation in the morning of July 20, exchanging views on deepening pragmatic cooperation between the two places.

Wang said that, with a profound traditional friendship, China and Zambia are “all-weather friends”. In May, 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping talked with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema through the phone, charting the course for the development of China-Zambia bilateral relations. Hainan and Zambia share a solid foundation of cooperation in areas like business, trade, and agriculture. Hainan is ready to work with counterparts from Zambia to implement the consensus of the two heads of state, promoting the pragmatic cooperation in fields including business and trade, tropical agriculture, tourism and ecological conservation. Zambia can also use the platforms Hainan provides, such as the Hainan Expo and Winter Trade Fair, to export its prime products to China and international market.

Muchindu said that his visit was aimed at strengthening exchanges and mutual-learning and sharing development opportunities. The Consulate-General of Zambia in Guangzhou will continue to play its role as a bridge to promote the pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between Hainan and Zambia in areas like tourism, agriculture, energy and manufacturing.

Officials from the Department of Commerce and relevant division of the Foreign Affairs Office attended the meeting.

During the visit, the Zambian Delegation also called on China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hainan Committee, Haikou Municipal Government, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Science and Haima Motor.
