China Travel: Foreign diplomats praise Hainan's culture, innovation and open dynamism
Dozens of foreign diplomats and envoys have wrapped up a recent field visit to Hainan. More than a year after Hainan launched its island-wide special customs operations, international representatives took a closer look at Hainan's unique cultural heritage, sci-tech innovation and growing global trade potential. Our Aaron Liu reports.
HODAN OSMAN ABDI, Ambassador of Somalia to China "My name is Hodan Osman Abdi. I'm the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to China. Today I'm visiting Maona Village in Wuzhishan, Hainan."
Over 30 diplomats and representatives from international organizations toured Hainan, seeking deeper cooperation under the Hainan Free Trade Port framework. At Maona Village, they experienced Li ethnic traditions firsthand.
HODAN OSMAN ABDI, Ambassador of Somalia to China "I mean, what's very interesting is that they're not using it only for clothing. They're also using it as an art form. So they've produced a number of products right now that could be sold as gifts and souvenirs that are still utilizing this art. In my country, I believe we're still using it as just a form of clothes. So it's definitely an opportunity for communication between the two cultures and the two countries to explore more avenues for utilizing this kind of art form."
Hainan strikes a fine balance between age-old cultural heritage and cutting-edge industrial innovation.
CRUZ FLORES RAMIRO JOS, Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to China "We learn about its culture, the cultivation of tropical fruit, which is very similar to what we have in Nicaraa Nicarais, a tropical country, and we have many, many tropical fruits."
As a key tropical agricultural hub, Hainan leverages free trade policies to boost global cooperation.
BARRY MULLIGAN, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Ireland in China "I've learned about the Free Trade Port. So Ireland's has got a number of industries that would be very interested in coming to Hainan."
Hainan has made rapid strides in commercial space launches, tropical seed breeding and green tech innovation.
MARTIN CHARLES, Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Dominica to China "We believe that this Free Trade Port offers us that excellent opportunity to trade with Hainan and more importantly, to get to know our friends here in Hainan and to collaborate in many areas, areas such as agriculture, tourism, information and communication technology in research and development."
Integrating culture, technology and open trade, Hainan continues to share development opportunities with the world. Aaron Liu, CGTN, Hainan Province.
