Governor of Hainan Province, Liu Xiaoming, met with Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, and his delegation in Haikou on May 21.

Liu emphasized that China and Cambodia are ironclad friends with a strong bond and shared future. He mentioned that Hainan and Cambodia have complementary strengths in cultural and tourism resources and act as significant source markets for each other's tourism industries.

He expressed hope that both sides would enhance air connectivity to accommodate increasing travel demand, collaborate more on developing tourism products, and create “multi-destination” tourism offerings that enable Chinese mainland tourists to transit through Hainan before continuing to Cambodia, which would help position Hainan as a key transit hub linking Cambodia and the Chinese mainland tourism market.

Liu also proposed encouraging two-way engagement between enterprises to create tourism products suited to each other’s markets and to implement specific tourist attraction efforts. He added that both parties should enhance exchange platforms through events such as the Haikou-Cambodia Cultural and Tourism Exchange Day 2026, promote reciprocal visits among cultural and artistic groups, strengthen cooperation in intangible cultural heritage and tourism promotion, and add new momentum to the China-Cambodia community with a shared future through tourism collaboration.

Huot Hak said the strong friendship between Cambodia and China is based on mutual benefits for their peoples. During his visit, he expressed his admiration for Hainan's progress in economic and social development, as well as the ongoing development of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP).

He noted that Cambodia has abundant tourism resources and hoped the two sides would continue working together across the sectors Liu mentioned, as well as conferences and exhibitions, business inspections, and sister-city exchanges.

Huot also expressed hope that the two sides would advance the signing of a memorandum of understanding, steadily expand exchanges and cooperation across broader fields and at multiple levels based on existing cooperation frameworks, and achieve more in building the China-Cambodia community with a shared future.
