On the morning of November 25, the Global South media delegation visited the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. Visiting journalists gave high praise to the area's cutting-edge medical technologies, wellness models, and prospects for medical tourism.
Cutting-Edge Medical Technology Impresses Global South Media
At the Boao Hope City Ever Lasting International Innovation Medicine Exhibition, Global South media were drawn to the world-leading medical equipment and pharmaceuticals on display. Staff members explained in detail how Hainan's Free Trade Port policies help accelerate the introduction and application of advanced international drugs and devices in Lecheng. From epilepsy treatments to the latest therapies for prostate diseases, from innovative surgical equipment to precise targeted medicines, each display showcased major breakthroughs in medical technology.
Satyen Bhuruth, from the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, said after the visit: "The medical technology here is extremely advanced. Some of the medicines I saw today are completely new to me, which I've never encountered or even heard of before. Seeing how effectively they treat conditions like epilepsy and prostate diseases shows that the medical tourism industry here has enormous potential."

Policies Empower Deeper International Cooperation
As a pilot zone for China's medical openness, Lecheng, supported by pilot policies and the Free Trade Port framework, continues to attract high-quality global medical resources. Thanks to these policy advantages, Ruijin-Hainan Hospital Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has fast-tracked the introduction of multiple innovative international drugs and medical devices, helping China shift from "following" to "running alongside," and even "leading" in global medical innovation.
"For us journalists from Global South countries, the example of Ruijin-Hainan Hospital is highly inspiring. It didn't start from scratch; instead, it brilliantly 'relocated' the resources of a top Shanghai hospital, rapidly elevating the region's medical standards," said Marlon Dwight Samuels from the Jamaica Public Broadcasting Corporation (JBC). "Even more impressive is how it harnesses the unique policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone to achieve simultaneous advancement in medical technologies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals at an international level."

Lecheng is not only provides advanced medical facilities, but also an excellent wellness environment. It truly deserves to be called an international destination for medical tourism."
