On June 9, 2022, Dai Zhen, Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province, met in Haikou with Lisa Heller, Consul General of the United States of America in Guangzhou.

Dai welcomed Heller and the delegation. She introduced that the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) is developing in a rapid and steady manner, with main economic indicators historically at the forefront of the country. The Hainan FTP enjoys unique opening-up policies in trade, healthcare, tourism, education and ecological conservation, and has been continuously improving its industrial structure featured with four leading industries including tourism, modern services, high-tech and efficient tropical agriculture. It is hoped that Hainan and the U.S. could share development opportunities and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the above areas. 

Heller said that the Hainan FTP has made impressive achievements. She hoped to strengthen the relationship between the two sides, increase people-to-people exchanges, and encourage American companies to visit Hainan to seek cooperation opportunities.

Heller and the delegation also visited the provincial Department of Commerce and the National Institute for South China Sea Studies.
